Precaution Whilst Taking Prozac

If you have to take Prozac for any treatment let your doctor knows if you are allergic to this medicine.
Prozac (fluoxetine) should not be taken alone with MAOI inhibitors (eg.phenelzine furazolidone). Do not take Fluoxetine within at least 14 days of stopping treatment.
Prozac taken by children from 7 to 18 years caused unusual excitement, restlessness, sleeping problems; more studies are needed to investigate these side effects.
If a person wants to start taking an MAOI again after stopping Fluoxetine wait at least five weeks to start the MAOI, serious and even fatal reactions can be caused if these two drugs are used together. Consult your doctor before taking Prozac. If you are recovering from a heart attack or have diabetes and liver disease.

Drug Interaction

Prozac should not be taken with alcohol.
Prozac Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors eg. Phenelzine, furazolidone can cause dangerous reactions.
Alprazolam may raise the levels of this drug in the blood and side effect may be increased.
Anticoagulants (eg warfarin) and digitalis may raise or lower the level of these drugs or of Fluoxetine. Dose adjustment may be necessary.
Prozac could cause Astemizole to rise to a higher level and increase the chance of very serious arrhythmias.
If a person uses Prozac (fluoxetine) together with Buspirone bromocriptine, levodopa, dextromethorphan, lithium , meperidine, nefazodone, pentazocine, sumatriptan, tramadol, trazodone, tryptophan, venlafaxine, and SSRIs (eg. Paroxetine, sertraline), can cause a condition called serotonin syndrome, characterized by restlessness, confusion, diarrhea, and shivering, sweating, uncontrolled excitement, shaking, and twitching. Traumatic shaking and twitching. Can be caused by Prozac. Tramadol with fluoxentine increases your changes of seizures. Prozac (fluoxentine) along with moclobeminde is not recommended. It is better to let seven days pass between stopping moclobeminde and starting Fluoxetine, and let five weeks pass when stopping Fluoxetine and starting moclobeminde.
Higher levels of phenytoin and tricyclic antidepressants (eg. Amitriptyline, imipramine) may occur and increase your chances of side effects.
